Jo Vergeat

Jo Vergeat is the President of the Grand Council 2022/23 in Basel-Stadt. From February 2020 to November 2021 she was the President of the special commission “Climate”. She is committed to Climate, Culture, Community and Basel. Beside her political engagement, Jo Vergeat is currently doing her Master’s studies in Geography at the University of Basel.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Baumgärtner

Prof. Dr. Stefan Baumgärtner

Stefan Baumgärtner holds the Chair of Environmental Economics and Resource Management at the University of Freiburg, Germany. His expertise in research, teaching and outreach is in ecological, environmental and resource economics, with a focus on sustainability. Stefan Baumgärtner’s research interests include sustainability economics; biodiversity and ecosystem services; risk, resilience and insurance in ecological-economic systems; sustainable rangeland management in semi-arid regions; thermodynamics and joint production in economy-environment systems; as well as intergenerational justice and responsibility for sustainability.

Prof. Dr. Armin Grunwald

Prof. Dr. Armin Grunwald

Armin Grunwald is the Head of the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) since 1999, where he also holds the Chair of Philosophy and Ethics of Technology. Furthermore, he is the Head of the Office of Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag (TAB) since 2002. Armin Grunwald works on theory of technology assessment; ethics of technology; concepts of sustainability and digital transformation.

Prof. Dr. Flurina Schneider

Prof. Dr. Flurina Schneider

Flurina Schneider is the scientific director of the Institute for Social-Ecological Research (ISOE) in Frankfurt am Main and a Professor in social ecology and transdisciplinarity at the Goethe University in Frankfurt. Until 2020, she was the head of the Land Resources Cluster at the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) at the University of Bern. She graduated in geography, botany and law at the University of Basel. Her research focuses on sustainability science and social-ecological topics, learning and action for sustainability transformations, transdisciplinary co-production of knowledge as well as science policy for sustainability.

Arne Menn

Arne Menn

Arne Menn has been the Head of Sustainability at the University of Basel since 2018, where he initiates, supports and coordinates sustainability initiatives and implements own projects in close cooperation with other areas and departments of the university. The Sustainability Office provides advice, raises awareness, makes sustainability-relevant activities visible and develops instruments for the long-term institutional implementation of sustainability at the University of Basel.
